Intro/ Medical Use
Some believe that medical marijuana is just a legal way for recreational users to get away with smoking it. That it only helps to alleviate symptoms of those suffering from serious medical conditions and that it should be tightly regulated to ensure it's use doesn't get out of control. There is a lot of stigma and bias against the use of medical marijuana. The reality of the situation is that
- Medical marijuana has literally been proven to cure cancer, along with a huge number of other serious medical uses,
- It can replace a vast number of harmful pharmaceutical drugs
- and that in fact, Medical Marijuana is safer then Tylenol.
Thousands of people OD and die from Tylenol use every year.
In thousands of years of both recreational and medicinal use, no one has ever died from the use of marijuana.
The reality of the situation is that there are a great number of recreational users, just as with any other substance that helps people feel better. In no way does this discount from it's legitamate medical use, however. It only serves to create a bias in people's minds against it being a real and serious medication. When one knows the facts it's difficult to dismiss it in this manner: medical marijuana literally cures cancer. Not even the modern medical and pharmaceutical industries can claim much success with that, despite charging hundreds of thousands of dollars for ineffective attempts at pumping your body full of toxic chemicals that cause cancer themselves, like chemo and radiation.
Much of the issue is this medication being so restricted. The main stream of society tend to know that marijuana is less dangerous then what would be considered other, harder street drugs, but the use of this medication still tends to be biased against. Being aware of this, the state laws in Michigan for the MMMP were specifically designed to prevent prosecutorial bias and discrimination against it's medical use.
Most all pharmaceutical drugs have a toxicity level at which point the medications can cause severe issues with overdose. This level is compared to the amount that is needed for medicinal benefit, and the difference between the effective level and the toxicity level can be seen as the safety margin.
With marijuana there is effectively no toxicity level. In fact, the opposite is true: the more marijuana you consume, the more it helps your body eliminate abnormal cellular growths, including cancer. So the more you consume, the more it helps your body clean itself out, all while leaving healthy cells alone to flourish and thrive once there surroundings are cleaned out.
Most people just do not realize how safe medical marijuana really is. You could drink some beers after work, or you could smoke a bowl. The difference is that medical marijuana is non-toxic and is not physically addictive. Opiate based narcotic pain pills and alcohol are both physically addictive. Even if you have smoked marijuana for decades and suddenly stop, you will not start having physical withdraw symptoms. With opiate based pain meds and alcohol, you would be experiencing physical with drawl symptoms as severe as seizures or even death.
Yet, alcohol and opiate based pain meds are legal pretty much anywhere. And medical marijuana is only locally (state) legal in certain areas and only with certain specific medical conditions being accepted.
