Some Medical Uses:

This is not a complete list. As with all science, research and verifications are always an ongoing process. Research and even communication about research, as well as personal experiences among people that use marijuana medicinally, has been restricted and censored for so long that all we can know for sure is that there is much more information about applications and use that will continue to become available.

Also note, cannabinoids sometimes affect different people differently. Hence, what works for many may not work as well for some.

Different buds have different effects

Indica vs Sativa

Some of the most drastic differences depend on whether the plant is an indica or sativa dominant one. Indica tends to relax and lay people back, and is best used as a night time smoke. Sativa dominant strains tend to stimulate you with energy, creativity and are considered more of a day time smoke. Most strains these days are a mix between indica and sativa, but typically favoring one more then the other.

This is one area where knowing your bud, what you need and prefer for specific uses and times, and having a consistent and good variety to choose from can come in to your benefit. You may be best to smoke a more sativa dominant strain for during the day when you have a lot to get done, and smoke a more indica dominant strain toward night when you need to relax.

Strains

Their are a great number of strains. Each has a different effect on both the mind and body. Some stimulate you with energy and creativity and some make you relaxed and even tired, along with everything between. The cannabinoids in each strain and even within strains can have a different profile, and this is what accounts for these different effects. Some falsely believe that THC is the only determining factor but then all strains would produce the same effect to a different intensity and this simply is not the case. Many cannabinoids have a crucial effect and when they combine form the overall effect.

Testing can be done on the end product to confirm the cannibinoid profile if desired, or one can go without doing testing and generally expect a somewhat consistent cannabinoid profile and effect when obtaining meds from a reputable supplier producing the same strains known to have the desired cannabinoid profiles.

Even the same strain can turn out differently, depending on how the genetics come together similar to you being different from your brother and sister despite having the same parents; how it is grown; and even at what point of maturity the plant is harvested. These differences can be minimized by cloning plants from a known to be desirable mother plant.

A good source of specific strains along with there reported effects can be found at https://www.leafly.com/start-exploring.

Harvest Time

To further complicate, the same strain has different effects depending on at what point of maturity it was harvested at. An early cut will tend to produce a faster effect that doesn't last as long, that is more head buzzy. At "peak", the effect will be most true to typical strain specific effects. A late harvest will produce more indica like, body buzz and relaxing effects. Theoretically, the most potency would be with an at "peak" harvest.
